Golf Croquet ‘Hoop Toppers’ – An alternative to using pegs

Have you ever wondered why it is necessary to carry up to 10 clips to record the progress of your game.? Is there a better way?

Yes, there is. Use Hoop Toppers.

Hoop Toppers clip onto the top of each hoop. They each have 12 blades, three blue, three red, three green and three pink. These are folded into the Hoop Topper like the blades of a pen knife. They have tabs on them to allow them to be raised and rotated into one of three predetermined positions. If red of yellow are first to run the hoop, raise the red blade to the vertical position. If blue or black is the next colour to run the hoop raise the blue blade and rotate it to the horizontal position. In the case of Advantage GC or 19pt where a hoop can be run a third time raise the third blade of the appropriate position to the 45 degree position.

The Hoop Toppers have removeable and adjustable feet designed to fit firmly onto the hoop so that they will not fall off when the hoop is hit hard by a ball of mallet, but, at the same time can be readily removed by pulling up when a jump shot or hampered shot is to be played. Croquet England’s GC Rules committee have ruled that items to record the score like the Hoop Topper may be used but they will have the status of ‘An Outside Agency’.

The feet are available in an range of sizes from 18mm to 21mm to suit most hoop sizes and the range is being extended to cover the more unusual hoop sizes. Currently, welded hoops with the top bar in the range of 18 to 20mm, and cast iron hoops by Hopewell, Townsend and Jaques.

They are manufactured by 3D printing using PETG plastic which is durable, colourfast and flexible. It is the same plastic as used for plastic bottles.
